Faizan Zaki wins the 100th Scripps National Spelling Bee
Think you're good at spelling? Could you spell éclaircissement? 13-year-old Faizan Zaki could, to win this year's competition after being a runner-up last year. Watch Faizan spell his winning word in this video.
From the New York Times, Faizan "didn’t even need to ask for the word’s meaning" - a clearing up of something obscure.
Faizan almost didn't win after misspelling a word. But "In the ninth round, Faizan got another chance at greatness after his two main rivals missed their words."
"Trophy in hand, (Faizan) was rendered speechless. 'I don’t know what to say,
I’m just really happy,' he said, adding, 'I’m probably going to stay up
the entire night or something!'”
